As a Stockton resident and parent I understand that education is a vehicle that moves our students and families out of poverty. The current Board of Trustees have often made crucial decisions with insufficient data, minimal knowledge, and a lack of consideration. They have shown consistent disregard for Board Bylaws as stated in the recent San Joaquin County Civil Grand Jury Report.
For too long, we’ve seen this lack of transparency and accountability. We’ve seen leaders who make decisions without first thinking about how our children and families will be affected. We need mature, serious, and professional leadership. We need change now. As a mother, advocate and community member I’m concerned about the future and safety of all students. Students in Stockton deserve so much better and are getting left behind by those at the helm.
That’s why I’m running and that’s why I’m asking for your support and vote.
I have spent the past 15+ years working as a Parent Involvement Specialist, focusing my energy on family and community engagement. I am very proud that in that time I have had success finding ways to connect families to their schools. If we can work together to leverage both good policy practices and smart budgetary priorities, then our schools, families, students, and overall communities are much stronger and effective. Working side-by-side with families to advocate for high quality education, I understand the disparities and barriers facing them. I have the deep community roots, experience, and skills to serve our school district in Area 7.
Finally, I am committed to ensuring Stockton Unified's promise to "graduate all youth college-, career-, and community- ready” while practicing responsible fiscal management.
As your school board trustee, I will emphasize student success, investment in early childhood education, inclusive family and community engagement practices, the creation of a cohort to review and revise school safety plans, and the infrastructure to be an academically competitive district that supports, develops, and keeps classroom teachers.
I ask you to say “Yes” to inspired and inspiring leadership. I ask you to join me in building a new Stockton Unified School District. I ask you to vote for change and for a new day for our children and families. I ask for your support and vote on or before November 8th, 2022.
